'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith renews clash with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the dramatic final moments of his team's remarkable turnaround win against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The game culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a supporter's spectacles after the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative shot from outside the box, and his teammate immediately converted the deflection before racing off toward the home end to celebrate, with supporters congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

This completed an extraordinary comeback given the team had been behind 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. During the delirium, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and Josh Key and I were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result earned a upcoming game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's first-time shot from about way out going in via the woodwork and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for attempting the shot from that distance," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right defensive wing after they changed tactics. That meant competing with the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the winger was among the City players who complimented the way the underdogs played positively.

City's Quality

"Fitness-wise they are outstanding but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It appears that they always find their target and they know how to dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're all right and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass through a line without you even noticing. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It takes a strong mentality and concentration just to keep pace."

New Chapter

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at his former club and has swiftly achieved similar status in south Wales. At his previous team he joined forces once more with his former manager, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a spell at lower division Salford City, before he departed his boyhood club.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a somewhat inexperienced going into professional soccer. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without serious challenge. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

International Recognition

His progress reflects that growth for both domestically and internationally, performing well for his national side, who remain in contention for the global tournament next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including home and away games against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a decisive through ball.

Early Days

It has been quite the ride for the kid from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his dad, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

His sole appearance for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they played on an plastic turf and the arena covering was sealed owing to temperatures of bitter cold. "That proved to be a extended travel and it was chilly," he says, grinning. "The preceding week, several youth players and I practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Moving On

What was the challenge was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I realized I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it became apparent where I thought I required a fresh start, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily working my way back up."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has an appointment at 5pm: a learner's exam, another step towards getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the transport team, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself a teammate, another squad member, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has started driving. It's enjoyable to interact with the lads but I'm hoping to be the next one out of the minibus and on the road. The Portuguese player is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on public transport after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
